Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 K. 488
Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 op. 8

: It is true that after taking on so many complete piano sonatas and concertos by the Master of Bonn in a single day, the French pianist no longer needs to convince us of his extraordinary mental stamina and powers of endurance at the keyboard. Quite aside from this tour de force facilitated by his flawless mastery of his instrument, these musical adventures demonstrate François-Frédéric Guy’s passion for his craft and for music. He has worked under the baton of prestigious conductors such as Wolfgang Sawallisch, Leon Fleisher and Bernard Haitink, to name but a few masters of the Romantic repertoire, but he is increasingly frequently “jumping the gate” and transferring the same intensity, sense of architecture and fondness for colours from his beloved keyboard to conducting. This evening, he is embarking on a crazy new adventure: playing and conducting Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 and Brahms’s Concerto No. 2, no less.
