Michael Volle is one of the most sought-after baritones on the international opera stage. A towering exponent of Wagner and Strauss – a repertoire in which he has triumphed worldwide from Salzburg to the Metropolitan in New York – he focuses in particular on the art of the lied and cantata. His rich and admirably expressive timbre and his attention to lyrics make him a first-class performer of this repertoire. He has recorded Bach with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, a reference for performances of works by the Cantor of Leipzig, and the disc was released last year. This evening they are performing live in a programme packed with emotion and spirituality.
